Cubs sign Motorola as jersey patch sponsor

Motorola, the first brand to buy an MLB ad patch, is now the Cubs' inaugural patch sponsor.

Starting tonight against the Cardinals, the Cubs will wear patches featuring Motorola’s “batwing” logo. The deal designates Motorola as the official smartphone of the Cubs and Wrigley Field, includes signage behind home plate, and a permanent space at Gallagher Way called the "Motorola Razr Room." Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson will also serve as a Motorola spokesman.

Motorola, headquartered in Chicago, was a Cubs sponsor four years ago. This patch deal continues their focus on uniform signage, adding to existing deals with the NBA Bulls and Bucks, and previous ones with the Nets, Pacers, and MLS Chicago Fire.

Fans can purchase authentic Cubs jerseys with the Moto patch starting today at the Cubs Team Store. The Cubs are the 23rd of 30 MLB teams to secure an ad patch sponsor since the program began last season.

“Finding the right company, especially a local one, was important,” said Cubs VP Alex Seyferth. “We are fortunate to have an ownership group that allows us to think long term.”
