2024 Football Season: Ticketing Trends and Market Insights from Elevate

Football season is just around the corner, and ticket demand is soaring.

Research from Elevate reveals that fans are purchasing 13% more tickets on the secondary market this year compared to last. Average spending on the top 20 games of the 2024 season has also increased, with ticket prices rising from $266.05 to $299.75, a 13% jump.

Jonathan Marks, Chief Business Officer at Elevate Marketplace, noted that fans are less concerned about where they buy their tickets due to the proliferation of platforms like StubHub, SeatGeek, Ticketmaster resale, and Vivid Seats. This competition is leading marketplaces to adjust their fees creatively to attract consumers.

Key findings from Elevate include:

  • The Texas-Texas A&M game on Nov. 30 has the highest secondary market entry price at $550.

  • Early excitement around conference realignment is evident, with top-selling games including:

    • Oct. 5: UCLA Bruins vs. Penn State

    • Oct. 12: Ohio State vs. Oregon

    • Oct. 19: Georgia vs. Texas

    • Nov. 9: Washington vs. Penn State

  • SeatGeek has increased its market share to 28% of Elevate Marketplace’s total secondary market sales, now holding a 36% share overall.

“Teams are exploring all avenues for revenue, and ticket sales are a quick and effective lever,” said Marks. Schools are implementing strategies like donation requests during ticket purchases and exploring new ways to attract fans.
